Day 8-10 (Soldeu/Andorra)
After two nights in Tossa we drove on to Soldeu (Andorra) and it turned out to be quite the drive. Soldeu lies at about 2000m above sea level and by the end of the hair pin turns across the 3000m high pass, we were both nauseated! I looooooove driving a standard shift car through the tight turns and I enjoy imagining that a Michael Schumacher or Jaques Villeneuve has gone missing on me. :) Andorra is much more modern than I would have imagined and some 12 million tourists come through here every year. Again, glad to have come in October to avoid it! What a fantastic place for hiking!!!!! We went on a beautiful hike up a river valley to a lake and small mountain refuge. Everything is still so pristine. I am afraid this might change in a hurry, as the winter tourism seems to be increasing every year and ski runs are being built in great numbers. No doubt much cheaper to ski here than in the French Pyrenees.
